Hoping to make an example of
someone about his stance on family values, 1992 presidential hopeful
Dan Quayle targeted on fictional T.V. character Murphy Brown.
On the show, Murphy was pregnant and decided to keep the baby
and raise it as a single mother. Dan made a speech about how he
felt that a family should have both a mom and a dad, and opposed
the way the show and the character showcased another “lifestyle”
choice. While some people saw where he was coming from, others
were scratching their heads as to why Dan was choosing to feud
with someone who did not exist in real life. The Murphy Brown
show reacted to Dan’s speech with an episode that talked
about the different kinds of families that made up America. |
