Nothing like a little healthy
competition to get the creative juices flowing…right?
This battle of the boy bands seems to prove exactly that. Rumor
has it that there is certainly no lost love between the Backstreet
Boys and N’Sync and that their ‘professional’
dislike of one another was cultivated by their infamous (and
subsequently jailed) manager, Lou Pearlman.
That’s right. According
to Backstreet’s Kevin Richardson, (who was always sure
to add that he had absolutely no PERSONAL problem with N’Sync)
N’Sync’s band was put together by the same management
as Backstreet. Using the same writers and producers, Backstreet
felt as if they had been cloned. Insisting that many people
thought that N'Sync WERE the Backstreet Boys when many of their
first songs played on the radio, Backstreet felt betrayed. And
when their managers began handing out gigs they turned down
to N’Sync…well, friendly competition was turning
into downright dirty play.
Finally, Backstreet decided
it was time for a new manager. After a lengthy court battle
with their former manager, Backstreet finally settled the case
and began working with their new management…only to learn
that their record company had just signed N’Sync! The
final blow to Backstreet was when a video producer reportedly
leaked information regarding their plans for an upcoming video
shoot to N’Sync’s production crew and N’Sync
produced a music video using Backstreet’s theme…but
all’s well that ends well, ladies and gentleman…for
it seems that both of these boy bands were thankfully mature
enough to limit their professional rivalry to the stage.
