Larry, creator of the sexually
explicit Hustler magazine, took a stab at prominent Protestant
minister Jerry Falwell. Hustler came out with a satire article
of Jerry describing his “first time” with his mother
while being drunk. Jerry of course didn’t like Larry’s
sense of humor. He sued Larry for libel, emotional distress, and
invasion of privacy. Larry appealed to the courts to throw out
the lawsuit, citing the First Amendment, but all they did was
dismiss the libel and invasion of privacy part of the lawsuit.
Larry was ordered to pay Jerry $250,000 for emotional distress.
