South Park aired an episode
titled “Trapped in the Closet”, making fun of Tom
Cruise, his Scientology religion, and questioning his sexuality.
Then the episode’s scheduled re-run was replaced by another.
Allegedly, Tom went to Viacom and told them that if they didn’t
pull the episode he wouldn’t do any kind of promotion for
the upcoming Mission Impossible 3. Viacom, who owns Paramount
and Comedy Central, pulled the episode to please their star. Tom’s
reps denied that he did anything, but the creators of South Park
didn’t buy it. Trey Parker and Matt Stone said in a statement
“So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the
million-year war for earth has just begun!” |
