Rosie was an avid supporter
of gun control, and Tom was a member of the National Rifle Association.
When Tom was a guest on her talk show, she used that opportunity
to grill Tom about guns and the NRA instead of talking about his
new movie. It started friendly at first with Rosie asking Tom
about the NRA and its views. Then things quickly turned aggressive
when Rosie started talking about the NRA opposing gun registration
and not enforcing gun safety. A visibly uncomfortable Tom tried
to explain things to Rosie, but she kept on and started asking
him questions on certain views of the NRA. Tom told her “I
can’t speak for the NRA.” Rosie insisted that he was
their “spokesperson” because he was famous and had
to be “responsible.” A frustrated and upset Tom told
her “let’s just say that I disagree with you but I
think you’re being stupid.” They continued to argue
for a few more minutes. At the end, Rosie tried to make nice and
thanked Tom for coming and discussing that issue with her. Tom’s
didn't seem to appreciate the conversation or gesture. |
