After the 9/11 attacks, there
was a celebrity telethon arranged by United Way to raise money
for the victims' families. Bill questioned on his Fox news show
where the money that was raised would really go. He said that
the money would be most likely mishandled and not all of the money
would go out to the families. Bill's show did an investigation
and claimed their findings "uncovered problems in distributing
the 9/11 money" and United Way changed their operation because
of what they found. One member of the board of directors was George
Clooney, who felt insulted by what Bill had said. He fought back
in an email to Bill and said there was no way Bill's investigation
found such things, and that because of his statements a lot of
people called off their pledges.
A few years later Bill brought the heat back between them when
he questioned the motives of an upcoming celebrity telethon to
help the tsunami victims. This time, George told Bill to either
join them or shut up. He invited Bill to be a part of the telethon
and he could see for himself if there was anything wrong. George
said, "Either you ante up and help out and be that watchdog
that you feel we clearly need...or you simply stand on the sidelines
and cast stones." |
